We’re proud to share that Alex Halperin, the Editor-In-Chief of WeedWeek, a RegStream Media Group brand, has been recognized with a 2025 Gerald Loeb Award, one of the highest honors in business journalism.
The recognition comes for a collaboration between Halperin and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paige St. John, published in The Los Angeles Times. Their reporting found vapes containing alarming levels of banned pesticides had improperly reached dispensary shelves, with regulators unwilling or unable to protect consumers.
More than a year after the first story was published, California regulators have yet to provide evidence that products on dispensary shelves meet state pesticide standards. The investigation has had lasting impact and raised critical questions that extend far beyond California.
“Working with Paige and her colleagues was a career highlight,” Halperin said. “And the issue remains urgent, not just in California but across the legal cannabis industry.”
This Loeb Awards recognition underscores WeedWeek’s mission: to produce original, agenda-setting journalism that holds power to account and helps readers make informed decisions in a fast-changing and complex market.
At RegStream, we’re proud to support that mission and to help amplify the kind of work that shapes industries and drives change.
